## Goodreads Kurucusunun Haber Derleme Uygulaması Smashing Kapandı

Smashing, the AI-powered reading curation app launched by Goodreads founder Otis Chandler, is shutting down its virtual doors. The app, which aimed to revolutionize how users discover and consume online content, failed to achieve the rapid growth needed to sustain its operations.

In an email to its users, the company cited its inability to “scale it into a sustainable product” as the primary reason for the closure. Launched in June of last year, Smashing aggregated news articles, blog posts, podcasts, and social media posts, using a blend of AI and community curation. Users could follow their interests, submit content, and vote on suggestions, while AI-powered summaries and a chatbot provided additional functionality.

Despite securing $3.4 million in funding from True Ventures, Blockchange, Offline Ventures, Advancit Capital, Power of N Ventures, and various angel investors, the seven-person team couldn’t overcome the challenges of a competitive market.

Smashing’s closure underscores the difficulty of building a successful reading curation app, even with a strong pedigree. It joins the ranks of other similar ventures that have struggled to find traction, including Artifact, the AI-powered news app from Instagram’s co-founders, which was ultimately acquired by Yahoo last year after shutting down.

While Smashing’s journey has ended, the quest to improve online content discovery continues. A number of startups are actively pursuing innovative solutions in this space. AI-powered news readers like Bulletin and Particle are leveraging artificial intelligence to combat clickbait and provide concise summaries. Meanwhile, feed aggregator apps like Feeeed, Tapestry, and Reeder are offering users enhanced control over their content streams. Whether these alternatives can succeed where Smashing faltered remains to be seen, but the demand for a better way to navigate the vast online landscape is undeniable.
