## May the Force (and Your Groceries) Be With You: Piaggio’s Gitamini Gets a Star Wars Droid Makeover
For Star Wars fans who’ve always dreamed of owning a personal droid, Piaggio Fast Forward is making that fantasy a little more real. The company’s Gitamini cargo-carrying robot is receiving a special edition makeover, transforming it into the G1T4-M1N1, a droid worthy of navigating the sands of Tatooine.
Developed in collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm, the G1T4-M1N1 adopts the iconic alphanumeric naming convention of Star Wars droids. This special edition boasts custom decals, lights, and sound effects designed to evoke the spirit of R2-D2 and other beloved robotic companions from a galaxy far, far away.
But this isn’t just a cosmetic upgrade. The G1T4-M1N1 retains all the functionality of the original Gitamini. Launched in 2021, the Gitamini is a smaller, more affordable version of Piaggio’s full-size Gita robot. It balances on two large wheels and uses an array of cameras and sensors, including radar, to autonomously follow its owner, avoiding obstacles with ease. It can keep pace up to 6mph and carry up to 20 pounds of cargo in its compact container, making it perfect for running errands or carrying supplies on the go. Its range maxes out at around 21 miles or seven hours of use, depending on terrain and load.
The *Star Wars* inspired enhancements include bright yellow droid decals adorning the exterior panels and the interior of the cargo bin. PFF has also incorporated custom droid sounds, reminiscent of R2-D2’s beeps, chirps, and whistles. These sounds dynamically respond to your movements, changing as you accelerate, decelerate, or simply stand still. The sounds, along with lights above each wheel, also communicate the robot’s battery life and operational modes, such as pairing or parking.
While learning to interpret the G1T4-M1N1’s unique communication style might take a little time, the accompanying Mygita mobile app provides a more user-friendly interface. Through the app, you can check battery life, adjust the volume of sounds (or mute them entirely), and even give your droid a custom name. The app also enables you to stream music to the robot, which plays through its built-in Bluetooth speaker. Imagine strolling down the street with your loyal G1T4-M1N1 playing John Williams’ “The Imperial March” or the “Cantina Band” song!
The G1T4-M1N1 is available now through PFF’s online store and DisneyStore.com for $2,875. While that’s a $400 premium over the standard Gitamini ($2,475), the chance to own a faithful, cargo-carrying droid might just be worth it for dedicated Star Wars fans. And who knows, maybe it even has room to hold your lightsaber.
