The app has garnered attention through endorsements from individuals like conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, Jacob Engels, a former Proud Boy turned media personality, and former Congressman Matt Gaetz. Gaetz, in a recent appearance on One America News Network, framed ICERAID as a lucrative alternative to traditional gig work, stating, “It’s like a citizen’s arrest, but with Wi-Fi… Snap a pic, save the day, and stack some digital cash while you’re doing it.”

This promotion raises serious questions about the ethical implications of incentivizing citizens to surveil and report their neighbors. Critics argue that the app could lead to racial profiling and harassment, and its use of the term “GovFi” is misleading and potentially dangerous, as it suggests an official endorsement that does not exist.
