## Meta Takes Aim at Facebook Spam with New Crackdown

Meta is intensifying its fight against spam on Facebook, announcing a series of measures designed to combat deceptive and manipulative content. The company outlined its plans to target accounts that exploit the platform’s algorithm with techniques such as excessively long posts and hashtag stuffing.

The crackdown extends to posts with captions unrelated to the accompanying image. Meta provided examples, such as a picture of a dog paired with a caption discussing airplane facts, and lengthy posts promoting car ownership coupled with a barrage of trending hashtags like “#VIRALCONTENT,” “#LIKEFORLIKE,” and “#BOOST.” Accounts engaging in these practices will face limitations, including reduced content reach (limiting visibility to followers only) and ineligibility for monetization.

“Spammy content can get in the way of one’s ability to ultimately have their voices heard,” Meta explained, highlighting the importance of a fair and authentic environment on the platform. This update arrives shortly after Facebook’s launch of a Friends-only feed, a feature that prioritizes content from genuine connections over algorithmic recommendations.

Beyond individual posts, Meta is also targeting users who create numerous accounts to amplify spam. These accounts, often created to inflate follower counts, boost views, and gain unfair monetization advantages, will face restricted reach and be barred from earning revenue.

The anti-spam efforts also extend to the comments section. Meta is working to reduce the visibility of coordinated fake engagement and is testing a user feedback feature that allows users to flag unhelpful or irrelevant comments. Furthermore, a new moderation tool will empower page owners to automatically detect and hide comments from accounts that appear to be impersonating others.

By tackling spam at multiple levels – from post content to account behavior and even comment sections – Meta aims to create a cleaner, more authentic, and ultimately more valuable experience for its users.
