## Kia’s Electric PV5 Van Charges into the UK with Pre-Orders Now Open
Kia is officially electrifying the UK van market with the announcement of pre-order availability and pricing for its all-electric PV5 Passenger van. Starting at £32,995 (approximately $44,000 USD) for the standard range model, the PV5 represents Kia’s first foray into the electric Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) segment.
Pre-orders opened on May 1st, with deliveries slated to begin in late 2025. Initially, the PV5 will be available in a five-seat configuration, with a seven-seat option planned for future release. Customers can choose between two trims: the base “Essential” and the upgraded “Plus” version, which comes standard with a long-range battery.
The “Essential” trim boasts a 51.5kWh battery, offering a WLTP-rated range of 149 miles on a single charge. For those seeking greater distances, the “Plus” model features a 71.5 kWh battery, extending the range to 249 miles. Pricing for the long-range battery option is expected to be revealed later.
Stepping up to the “Plus” trim brings a host of enhancements over the “Essential” model. Upgrades include swapping the 16-inch steel wheels for alloy ones, with an optional heat pump available. Inside, occupants will enjoy heated front seats with power adjustments, a heated steering wheel, and a powered tailgate. Additional conveniences include a Vehicle-to-Load AC outlet adapter, wireless phone charging, and advanced safety features like cross-traffic collision avoidance and power-folding mirrors.
Kia emphasizes a “simple and straightforward” approach to customization, limiting choices between the two trims beyond paint colors. Opting for a premium color like “Cityscape Green” or “Runway Red” offers some personalization beyond the standard white.
The PV5 is a key component of Kia’s broader PBV strategy, unveiled at CES 2024. This lineup of modular EVs is designed with a flexible architecture, allowing for body swaps to create a minivan, full-sized van, or even a small truck, catering to diverse needs. Kia plans to expand the PBV lineup with the larger PV7 in 2027 and the PV9 in 2029.
Regardless of battery size, all PV5 models will feature a single electric motor producing a maximum output of 120kW. Built on the 400-volt E-GMP.S architecture, the PV5 supports charging speeds up to 150kW, enabling a 10 to 80 percent charge in under 30 minutes.
Looking ahead, Kia plans to introduce commercial-focused Cargo, Crew, and Chassis Cab versions of the PV5 in 2026, coinciding with the vehicle’s expansion into additional markets. Kia envisions the PV5 serving as a versatile solution for deliveries, ride-hailing, and other fleet applications. Uber has already signed on as Kia’s first customer, signaling strong interest in the PV5’s potential. With pre-orders now open in the UK, the Kia PV5 is poised to make a significant impact on the electric van landscape.
