## EA Restructures: Layoffs Hit Respawn, New Titanfall Project Canceled
Electronic Arts is undergoing a period of restructuring, resulting in layoffs and the cancellation of a highly anticipated project. The company is reportedly eliminating between 300 and 400 positions across various departments. The biggest blow to fans, however, is the shelving of “R7,” a game set within the beloved *Titanfall* universe that was under development at Respawn Entertainment.
“As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth,” stated EA spokesperson Justin Higgs in a statement to *Bloomberg*.
Respawn Entertainment confirmed the news in a post on X, acknowledging the cancellation of two early-stage incubation projects and “targeted team adjustments” affecting *Apex Legends* and *Star Wars Jedi*. They emphasized the difficulty of these decisions and expressed gratitude to the impacted employees.
According to *IGN*, approximately 100 employees at Respawn have been laid off, encompassing developers, QA workers, and publishing staff. Some employees are being reassigned to other projects within EA, including EA Motive’s *Iron Man* game, the *Battlefield* series, and other undisclosed projects.
The internal shakeup also includes a change in leadership. Daniel Suarez, formerly SVP of operations at Respawn, has been promoted to General Manager of the studio, reporting directly to co-founder and CEO Vince Zampella. Zampella had previously taken on responsibility for the *Battlefield* franchise back in 2021, signaling a broader shift in EA’s strategic direction.
While the cancellation of a new *Titanfall* game is undoubtedly disappointing for fans, EA’s moves suggest a recalibration of resources towards existing franchises and upcoming projects like the *Iron Man* game. The company is clearly aiming to streamline its operations and focus on long-term growth, even if it comes at the cost of beloved, unreleased titles and valued employees.
