## Google Addresses Swollen Battery Woes with Extended Pixel 7A Repair Program
Google is stepping up to address concerns surrounding battery swelling in its Pixel 7A smartphone. The company has announced an extended repair program offering free repairs for devices experiencing “unexpected battery swelling,” according to a report by *9to5Google*. This move comes after numerous user complaints surfaced online regarding battery life issues, physical swelling of the device, and challenges navigating Google’s warranty repair process.
The program targets symptoms directly indicative of a swelling battery, such as a bulging phone or a separation of the device’s casing. Google also notes that rapid battery drain can be a symptom covered under this initiative.
The Pixel 7A, which launched in 2023, has been the subject of user complaints, particularly on platforms like Reddit. Users reported not only poor battery life but also, more alarmingly, the physical expansion of their devices, making the extended repair program a welcome announcement for affected owners.
While Google promises free battery replacements for individual end-users, the offer is contingent on the damage being solely related to battery swelling. Issues stemming from liquid damage, cracks, or other unrelated causes will not be covered. To determine eligibility, users will need to navigate the official program site and undergo an assessment. If approved, they can then either mail their device in for repair or visit an authorized repair shop.
For customers residing in countries without established repair options (excluding the US and India), Google is offering alternative compensation. Owners of out-of-warranty Pixel 7A devices could receive a cash equivalent of $200 (converted to local currency), while those opting for an upgrade can receive $300 towards a new Pixel device. In-warranty devices are eligible for a payment of $456.
This isn’t the first time Google has implemented extended repair programs. In the past, the company addressed issues like flickering screens on the Pixel 8 and power-related problems on the Pixel 4 XL, demonstrating a commitment to addressing hardware flaws and customer satisfaction. This new program for the Pixel 7A reinforces that commitment, providing a much-needed solution for users grappling with potentially dangerous battery swelling.
