## Google’s AI-Powered NotebookLM Goes Mobile: Pre-Orders Now Open
Google’s NotebookLM, the AI-powered note-taking and research assistant, is expanding its reach beyond the desktop. Android and iOS apps are now available for preorder, with a scheduled launch date of May 20th, according to listings on the respective app stores.
Since its initial launch in late 2023, NotebookLM has been exclusively accessible via desktop. This move marks a significant step towards making the intelligent assistant available to students, professionals, and researchers on the go.
NotebookLM leverages artificial intelligence to simplify and enhance the process of understanding complex information. Key features include smart summaries, enabling users to quickly grasp the core concepts of documents and materials. The application also allows users to pose specific questions about the content, receiving AI-driven answers and insights. Furthermore, NotebookLM offers the ability to generate AI-powered “Audio Overviews,” essentially podcasts summarizing complex topics for easier consumption while multitasking. This feature was recently expanded to include more languages, making it even more accessible to a global audience.
The mobile apps promise to replicate and expand upon the desktop experience. Screenshots from the app store listings reveal that users will be able to create new notebooks, view existing ones, upload new source materials directly from their devices, and access their previously uploaded sources. Crucially, the mobile apps will also allow users to listen to their generated Audio Overviews on the go, making it easier to learn and review information while commuting or performing other tasks.
Beyond smartphones, the apps are also designed to be compatible with iPads and other tablets, offering users a larger screen for enhanced multitasking capabilities.
Interested users can now preorder the app on the App Store for iOS devices or pre-register on Google Play for Android. By doing so, the app will be automatically downloaded and installed on May 20th.
The timing of the app’s launch coincides with the start of Google I/O, the company’s annual developer conference. It’s highly likely that Google will unveil further details about the mobile apps and their future development during the event. This expansion to mobile platforms signals Google’s continued commitment to AI-powered productivity tools and their dedication to making complex information more accessible and manageable for users everywhere.
