## Robotaxi Race Heats Up: May Mobility Joins Uber’s Autonomous Fleet in Texas
The autonomous vehicle landscape is becoming increasingly competitive, with May Mobility announcing plans to launch its robotaxi service on the Uber platform by the end of 2025. The initial deployment will take place in Arlington, Texas, marking the beginning of a multi-year partnership.
This collaboration provides May Mobility with a significant opportunity to expand its reach beyond its current focus on offering autonomous shuttle services within campuses and planned communities. For Uber, the partnership strengthens its position in the self-driving sector, adding May Mobility to its growing network of autonomous vehicle collaborators.
Uber is already making strides in the robotaxi market, offering Waymo’s autonomous vehicles on its app in Phoenix and Austin. Plans are also underway to launch in Atlanta this summer. Notably, May Mobility also announced a partnership with Lyft to launch autonomous ride-hail in Atlanta this year, adding further competition to the market.
In Arlington, Uber users will have the option to select a May Mobility vehicle when booking a ride. The startup’s hybrid Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS vehicles, equipped with its self-driving technology, will be used for the service. Initially, the vehicles will operate with human safety drivers behind the wheel, with a gradual transition to fully driverless operation planned.
Looking ahead, Uber and May Mobility intend to expand their robotaxi service to other U.S. markets in 2026, with May Mobility stating their intent to “deploy thousands of AVs” over the next few years. This expansion signifies a major step for May Mobility, which currently operates on-demand autonomous microtransit services primarily in small-scale areas across the U.S. The startup has previously piloted its technology in Arlington, Texas, as well as other locations, including Ann Arbor, Michigan; Grand Rapids, Minnesota; Peachtree Corners, Georgia; Miami, Florida; and Sun City, Arizona.
