## Google Voice Gets a Refresh: Three-Way Calling and a Modernized Interface

After a period of relative neglect, Google is breathing new life into its Google Voice app with a significant update. The refresh brings a redesigned in-call interface and, perhaps most notably, the ability to initiate three-way conference calls.

According to a recent Workspace update, the new call interface boasts a cleaner, more accessible layout reminiscent of Google Meet. Prominent call control buttons are now neatly aligned, providing a user-friendly experience. A “Transfer” button sits conveniently to the left of the “Hold” option, while an “Add” button on the right transforms into a “Merge” button when a second call is waiting.

The process for starting a three-way call is streamlined and intuitive. During an active call, users simply tap the “Add” button and select a contact from their list. Google Voice will then initiate a call to the selected person, allowing the user to merge the two calls with a single tap. The interface also provides clear visual cues, like notification-style messages, to indicate when a participant is on hold and offers a simple way to switch between calls.

While the three-way calling feature is a welcome addition, its rollout is currently limited. The update is being rolled out gradually, potentially taking up to 15 days or more to reach all eligible users. Furthermore, the feature is initially exclusive to Google Workspace customers with a Voice Starter, Voice Standard, or Voice Premier subscription, as well as those with SIP Link Standard and SIP Link Premier.

Google has confirmed that the refreshed interface is slated to arrive for all Google Voice users. However, the announcement notably omits specific mention of iOS support, leaving users on Apple devices in a state of hopeful anticipation. Google’s provided examples exclusively showcase the interface on Android devices.

This update signals Google’s continued commitment to its Voice service, offering enhanced functionality and a more modern user experience, at least for some of its user base for now.
