## Unlock and Disarm: Yale’s New Smart Lock Integrates Fingerprint Security with ADT Systems
Yale and ADT have unveiled a new smart lock designed to streamline home security. The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Z-Wave, priced at $279.99, directly integrates with the ADT Plus security system, offering a convenient and secure way to unlock your door and disarm your alarm simultaneously using just your fingerprint.
This new lock fills a void left by the discontinued Nest Secure system and its associated Nest X Yale Lock, which allowed users to disarm their system with a single code upon unlocking the door. Now, ADT Plus users can enjoy an even faster and more secure method of entry.
The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch leverages the Z-Wave smart home protocol, communicating with the ADT base station via Z-Wave’s new User Credential Command Class. This ensures a more secure method for managing passwords and PIN codes within the Z-Wave network. While the lock can function as a standalone Z-Wave device with any compatible system, the fingerprint-activated disarming feature is currently exclusive to ADT Plus.
“ADT is the first security company to adopt the Command Class standard; if they add support, the lock could be compatible with other security systems in the future,” according to the company.
This isn’t the first Z-Wave lock with fingerprint access; Ultraloq launched a similar product some time ago. However, Yale’s new offering distinguishes itself by being the first to integrate fingerprint unlocking with security system control over Z-Wave.
Beyond fingerprint access, the Assure Lock 2 Touch Z-Wave retains the features of its Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-powered counterpart, the Assure Lock 2 Touch, offering keypad entry, traditional key access, and control via the ADT app. Like other Yale smart locks, it utilizes a swappable module for connectivity, though this module is not available for separate purchase to upgrade existing locks.
The new lock will also work seamlessly with ADT Plus’s Trusted Neighbors feature, which requires a pro monitoring plan. This allows for automated access for authorized individuals, disarming the system by recognizing their faces through Google Nest security cameras. The Yale lock adds another layer of convenience, allowing trusted neighbors to disarm the system using their fingerprint.
Further enhancing convenience, ADT recently introduced Home Away modes, utilizing smartphone location data to automatically arm the system and lock doors upon departure and disarm it upon arrival. Combined with the fingerprint unlock, these features aim to make managing your ADT security system more intuitive and efficient.
The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch Z-Wave for ADT is available now at ADT.com for $279.99, offering a compelling blend of security and convenience for ADT Plus users.
